I better write, (so I can write better)

Themes:

I bought this domain nomagicbeans.com a long while back. First I was going to use it to write about digital strategy, especially in the SaaS world. You gotta do the work, I was going to say. No such thing as magic beans. But then I didn’t go with it, (and I have no regrets).

Then I wanted to use the domain to write about AI. It’s not magic, I wanted to say. If it’s magic you’re after, you have to combine AI with your personal unique brilliance. Both are necessary to succeed in the New World. But, there are 3,000 AI newsletters on Beehiiv alone, and there are many people much smarter than me who write about this level of stuff. It’s still my world, but it’s not the only thing I want to write about, anyway. So I didn’t go with it either.

In the meantime, I started writing a book. And I started reading more, and more, and more. And the more I read, and the less I wrote, the greater my internal chaos. And my brain is now full. Full! Ideas are bubbling over, I can no longer make coherent references to things I read, because I file content away in my very haphazard “second brain” system, with the #fakenews idealism that I will get to it, and I will think about this some more and – of course – the I must write about this. It’s all bursting at the seams, while also all going to shit. Changes must be made.

Write! says Paul Graham. Write! says xxx. Write! says xxx. Write! says xxx. Write! says xxx.

I better write, then.

So now, this long-suffering domain that’s been in an identity crisis for years, has been adopted and adapted. For now, it’s home of my writing. I’ll still write for my Sneakers and Heels. I’ll still write for my book. But everything else (that’s not related to specific work projects), will live here for now.

Thanks for reading,
